Overview
The general rule is that: Hours over the limit are paid as overtime; the overtime rate applied is based on the day the overtime falls. This applies to Full Time, Part Time and Casual shift workers.
Overtime Staff: Full Time
For full time carers the following criteria applies:

Overtime Monday  Sunday:

All hours falling between 06:00 and 20:00 (6am8pm) are accrued as Time in Lieu (TIL) 1:1 Ratio


Overtime Monday  Saturday:

All hours falling between 20:00 and 06:00 (8pm6am) are paid:

First 3 hours at time and a half (T1X5)

The remaining hours at double time (T2)



Overtime Sunday:

All hours falling between 20:00 and 06:00 (8pm6am) are paid at double time (T2)


Overtime Public Holidays:

All hours are paid at Double Time and a Half (T2X5)

Pay Rule Criteria:

For all overtime criteria, the hours worked must be over the limit (daily hours agreed upon or as defined by SCHADS) thus the rule is written:

Hours are greater than the Limit


Day of the Week (DOW) does not equal Public Holiday (7) thus:

DOW does not equal 7, as the rule specifies that this rate applies for all shifts occurring from Monday (1) onward including shifts occurring on Monday and ll shifts leading up to Sunday (0) including shifts occurring on Sunday.

*Remember: Days are represented by numbers



Applied On: The rule will applied between the times 06002000 (6am8pm)

Time is greater than 600

Time is less than equal to 2000

DOW less than or equal to 6, as the rule specifies that this rate applies for all shifts occurring on days leading up to Saturday (6) but also including shifts occurring on a Saturday. Thus Sunday (0) and public Holiday (7) are not included as this rate does not apply to them.

Shift Type does not equal Sleepover


Applied On:

overtime hours worked between the time 20000600 (8pm6am). This is expressed as:

Time is greater than 2000 (8pm)

Time is less than equal to 0600 (6am)


The rate T1X5 is paid for the first three hours of the total overtime worked. This is expressed as:

Hours less than equal to 3

DOW less than or equal to 6, as the rule specifies that this rate applies for all shifts occurring on days leading up to Saturday (6) but also including shifts occurring on a Saturday. Thus Sunday (0) and public Holiday (7) are not included as this rate does not apply to them.
